Being a parent/carer to a child with disabilities or with special educational needs can become a stressful experience when you can't find the information, advice or support you need.
Our main aims are to give you the skills and knowledge to feel confident managing meetings and relationships, and to understand what you need to do and when. We do that by giving you clear, straightforward information about your options. We can also help you to stand back from a situation and think more broadly, or help you to focus on what’s important for you and your child.
The SEND Partnership Service (SPS) offers free, confidential, impartial and legally based information to children and young people aged 0-25 years who have special educational needs and/or disabilities and their parents or carers.
We provide you with easily accessible information around all aspects of education, health and social care to help you make informed decisions.
We aim to keep all our information current, accurate and impartial. We have a range of factsheets and other useful links that can be found in the sections below. If you can’t find what you are looking for then please contact us.

Delivering Quality Annual Reviews
The Council for Disabled Children (CDC) has published online training on Delivering Quality Annual Reviews. This package of online training has been developed as part of the Delivering Better Outcomes Together programme, funded by the Department for Education and delivered in partnership by the Council for Disabled Children, NDTi and Mott Macdonald.
This is a freely available, self-guided course. It is aimed at adults with a role to play in the Annual Review process such as senior leaders, parent carers, practitioners, SEN Teams, and education teams.
Advice and Support
The SEND Partnership Service offers free, impartial and confidential advice and support to parents and carers of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
We can offer advice around Education, Health and Care, with the aim of empowering you to make informed decisions for your child’s or young person’s future. You may find it useful to talk to us, so we can advise you about the information that may be helpful to you.
Our aim is to make sure you know who to ask, where to go and what you are entitled to. We also provide training to make sure you are confident in making the right decisions and dealing with each situation.
Our team are trained in SEN legislation, but we are not legal or financial advisors, health or care professionals. But we will signpost you to those who provide advice in these areas. We do our utmost to give advice that is current, accurate and impartial.
By talking to us about how to prepare for a meeting and ensuring your voice is heard, for example, you should feel more confident about what to say and what to prioritise. We can often help you to do this do this by phone or email.
Sometimes it can be helpful to talk face to face or have someone in a meeting with you, supporting you to raise issues and ask questions. This could be an Information and Advice Officer or one of our trained Volunteer Supporters.
Part of our responsibility is to find a way for you to influence which services the Local Authority Commissions to support children and young people with SEND the policies they implement and processes they use.
